  Grade 9:
 

Advanced Geometry

Purpose:  To provide entering freshmen, who are assessed as having exceptional math skills in algebra, the opportunity to further their math education with advanced classes.  Students will be administered a UCT math assessment test to measure achievement in algebra.  Students with high scores will be permitted to take geometry rather than Algebra I.  The class will be aligned with the curriculum frameworks and students will prepare for the math portion of MCAS.  Students will also be prepared for success in future UCT advanced math courses as well as college level math courses upon matriculation.

College Prep

Algebra I

Purpose:  To prepare students for an academic regimen at a four-year college. Students will be taught requisite academic skills to succeed in future UCT math classes.  This course is aligned with the math curriculum frameworks and students will prepare for the math portion of MCAS.

Tech Prep Algebra I

Purpose:  To teach algebraic principles to students who will likely attend a two-year college or go directly into an occupational area.  Emphasis is placed on integrating the course material with applied concepts taught in shop areas to give the material relevance.

       
  Grade 10:
 

Advanced Algebra II

Purpose:  To provide sophomores designated as having exceptional math skills with a course that allows students to fully explore algebraic principles.  Course material will also be aligned with the math curriculum frameworks and prepare students for MCAS.  The course will be conducted with an academic regimen that recognizes high achievement and prepares students for success at four-year colleges.

College Prep Geometry

Purpose:  To provide students with an introduction to basic geometry.  The curriculum will be aligned to the curriculum frameworks and prepare students for the MCAS math test.  The course material is intended for students who demonstrate high academic achievement and is designed to teach skills requisite for success in four-year college math classes.

*Tech Prep Geometry

Purpose:  To provide students with a fundamental understanding of geometric principles.  This course is intended for students who plan to attend a two-year college or go directly into their occupational field.  Concepts taught will be closely integrated with applied concepts taught in shop areas to give the material as much relevance as possible.  Additionally, the course material is aligned to the math curriculum frameworks to prepare students for the MCAS math test.

       
  Grade 11:
 

Advanced Pre-Calculus I

Purpose:  First part of a two-part course to introduce students to the basic principles of calculus.  This course is intended for students who have demonstrated exceptional ability in math and who intend to matriculate in a four-year college.  Classes are conducted in a regimen that fosters high academic achievement and develops skills necessary to succeed in college level math classes.

College Prep Algebra II A

Purpose:  This is the first part of a two-part course to prepare students for college level math classes.  It is intended to develop fully the student's understanding of algebra.   Classes are conducted in a regimen that fosters high academic achievement and develops skills necessary to succeed in college level math classes.

Tech Prep Applied Technical Math I

Purpose:  This is the first of a two-part course designed to provide students with math skills necessary to succeed in business and on college entry math tests.  The course is intended for students who will likely attend a two-year college or go directly into an occupational field.

       
  Grade 12:
 

Advanced Pre-Calculua II

Purpose:  To introduce students to the fundamentals of calculus. This is the second part of a pre-calculus course started junior year for students demonstrating exceptional math ability.  Students taking his course are expected to attend a four-year college.  In addition to the course material, developmental academic skills will be used to enhance the student's ability to succeed at a four-year college.

College Prep Algebra II B

Purpose:  To provide students with the requisite skills to allow them to succeed in basic college math courses.  This course is a continuation of the algebra course started junior year.  It is designed for students planning to attend a four-year college and will include an academic regimen that will develop the skills necessary to succeed in college level math classes.

Tech Prep Applied Technical Math II

Purpose:  To provide students with math skills necessary to succeed in business as well as providing fundamental math skills necessary to successfully complete a college level entry math test.  This course is designed for students planning to attend a two-year college or go directly in to an occupational field.  This course is not available for seniors who have yet to attain a competency determination in MCAS.
