Plumbing & Heating

The Plumbing and Heating program prepares students with training opportunities in rough and finish plumbing installation and maintenance of residential, commercial, and industrial piping. This occupational program includes the study of natural gas and oil fired heating systems, plumbing fixtures, drainage and vent systems, and the installation of solar thermal systems.

Curriculum areas include:

  • Blueprint reading
  • Boiler installation
  • State plumbing codes
  • Drainage wastes & vents (DWV)
  • Hot water heater installation
  • Maintaining and repairing plumbing and heating systems
  • Residential plumbing
  • Soldering
  • Water piping
  • Solar Thermal Systems
  • CAD (Computer Assisted Drafting

The Plumbing and Heating work areas are equipped with state-of-the-art boilers, fixtures, and appliances in a shop with a two story mock-house in its rough construction stage.  Students also work on plumbing related projects throughout the school and on selected work sites in the community.

Hours spent in shop and related theory are credited toward state licensure requirements.  Self employment opportunities exist just twenty-two months after graduation.  Well motivated graduates can own their own business or can make excellent salaries in residential and commercial employment.  Students completing this program work toward licensure or further their education at post secondary institutions in Plumbing and Heating Technology.
