Admission to the Practical Nurse Program

Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School admits students and makes available to them its advantages, privileges, and courses of study without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, handicap, or sexual orientation.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Practical Nurse Program is competitive and selective.  Regulations require that all students admitted to the Practical Nurse Program possess a high school diploma or GED.  In addition, applicants must:

  1. submit an Application for Admission to the Practical Nurse Program;
  2. meet or exceed the minimum acceptable scores on the Assessment Technologies Incorporated - Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Version V.  The test is organized into four categories and minimum percentage required for each section is as follows: Reading (61%), Mathematics (50%), Science (33%), and English (53%). 
  3. submit three professional written references (form provided);
  4. interview with the Program Director or designee;
  5. have health insurance coverage throughout the program;
  6. meet the Board of Registration in Nursing Good Moral Character Requirements (included with application packet);
  7. submit to a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and/or a Sexual Offender Record Information (SORI) as required by all clinical agencies;
  8. meet all health and immunization requirements of the program in accordance with Commonwealth of Massachusetts regulations.

Upon acceptance to the program students must have current CPR certification which must be obtained through either the American Heart Association – Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross – Professional Rescuer.  CPR certification must remain current while enrolled in the PN Program.

Students must submit to a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and/or a Sexual Offender Record Information (SORI) check in accordance with agency clinical requirements.  Based upon the results of the CORI and/or SORI, students may be ineligible to participate in clinical experiences which may result in their inability to continue in the program.  

Students must also have current immunizations and meet other health testing requirements as stipulated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the practical nurse program and affiliated clinical agencies.
