English Course Descriptions

Grade 9 

English 1 CP1 (1cr)
To provide students with an introductory English course that prepares students in the writing and reading process and provides them the skills necessary for success in future English classes. The class is taught in consonance with the Massachusetts State English Language Arts Frameworks and will prepare the students for the English portion of MCAS. Content is comparable across the various levels and is part 1 of 2.

Grade 10

English CP1 (1cr)
Part 2 of 2 in the introductory English course that prepares student for the writing and reading process, and the English Language Arts MCAS. Content is comparable across the various levels.

Part 2 of 2 in the introductory English course that prepares student for the writing and reading process, and the English Language Arts MCAS. Content is comparable across the various levels.
 
English Honors (1cr)
Part 2 of 2 in the introductory English course that prepares student for the writing and reading process, and the English Language Arts MCAS. Content is comparable across the various levels.
 

Grade 11

English CP1 (1cr)
This course is designed to engage students in becoming skilled writers and readers using a variety of venues. Both their writing and their reading should make students aware of the interactions among a writer’s purposes, audience expectations, and the subjects as well as the way generic conventions and the resources of language contribute to effectiveness in writing.
 
English CP2 (1cr)
This course is designed to engage students in becoming skilled writers and readers using a variety of venues. Both their writing and their reading should make students aware of the interactions among a writer’s purposes, audience expectations, and the subjects as well as the way generic conventions and the resources of language contribute to effectiveness in writing.
 
English Honors (1cr)
This course is designed to engage students in becoming skilled writers and readers using a variety of venues. Grade 12

AP English (1cr)
This course is designed for students interested in potentially earning college credit. Students will explore both classical and contemporary literature, read poetry, discuss structure, diction, tone, mood, figurative language common themes, etc. AP English is an intensive, fast paced class structured and conducted like a college class.
