Automotive Maintenance & Light Repair Technician Training
This program offers comprehensive training for individuals aspiring to become Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair Technicians. It covers a wide range of subjects including general automotive service, tire service and diagnostics, brake system diagnostics, wheel bearing and brake assist system services and steering system services. The emphasis is on developing both technical skills and employability traits such as tool proficiency and technician qualities. The training involves theoretical knowledge through textbooks and hands-on experience in troubleshooting and diagnostics using tools. Certifications include industry-standard SP/2 certifications such as Automotive Service Safety, Automotive Service Pollution, Cleaning and Storage of Equipment, Motor Oil 101, Automotive Fluids 101, Electric Vehicle Safety and Automotive Lift Safety. Upon completion graduates can explore job opportunities as Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair Technicians in various settings such as auto dealerships, municipal fleet service facilities and smaller vehicle repair shops.
Marine Technician
This 245-hour course covers various aspects of marine engine troubleshooting. Including two and four-stroke engines, fuel systems, lubricants, cooling systems, ignition and batteries. The electrical systems training encompasses AC vs. DC systems. Additionally students will gain understanding in diesel engine operations, fuel delivery systems, turbocharging, inboard vs. outboard drive systems, I/O systems, Pod drives, propellers and gear ratios.
The training offers two certifications: OSHA 10-Hour General Industry and the Boating Safety Course. Moreover, students will learn welding technologies (MIG, TIG and ARC) and the use of plasma and oxygen/acetylene torches for marine repair projects.
Welding Technology Program
The Welding Technology program will include five units consisting of safety for welders, introduction to oxy-fuel burning/metal cutting, introduction to SMAW (stick) welding, introduction to semi-automatic processes (FCAW & MIG) and introduction to TIG welding. Prospective students will get academic as well as practical experience exploring welding theory in the classroom and then applying those principals to hands-on IA lab work. Upon course completion a student will have become familiarized with safety protocols and equipment specific to welding trades, various forms of metal cutting and the four aforementioned welding processes. Dedicated students will be fully prepared for an off-site welding test. Successful completion will yield an AWS D1.1 certification for SMAW which will give students an advantage when under consideration for entry level structural welding jobs or Union membership. All students will leave with an OSHA 10 certification and NFPA hot work certification.
Diesel Service Technology Program
The Diesel Service Technology Program will be a sequence of lessons designed to prepare students for careers in the diesel equipment maintenance, service and repair trade. We will strive to develop a strong foundation in diesel engine theory, diagnosis, and repair. Learning opportunities enable students to develop academic, technical and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Safety standards and requirements will be an integral part of the program. The program will emphasize a combination of light, medium, heavy duty trucks, equipment, and practical applications necessary for successful employment depending on the area a student chooses to pursue.
