The Upper Cape Tech girls’ basketball team brought home a 40-39 win in a closely fought battle at Bristol County Agricultural High Wednesday, January 25.
The Rams fell behind 27-16 at the half but exploded for 20 points in the fourth quarter. Amber DiBona led the scoring charge for UCT with 24 points, including 12 in the fourth. She hit two crucial 3-pointers in the final quarter. Hannah Grassi added seven points for the Rams.
Thirty-five points from Amber DiBona led the way for the Rams Monday, January 23, in a 57-49 victory over Cape Cod Tech.
The Crusaders took an early lead, but the Rams fought back to cut the CCT lead to 25-21 by halftime.
In the third quarter DiBona sparked a 16-point UCT run as the Rams took control. Cape Cod Tech came back to edge ahead 44-41 midway through the final quarter, but a lay-up and free throw from DiBona regained the lead for the Rams. Scoring from Grassi, Chade Vanlier and DiBona down the stretch nailed down the win.
Grassi finished the night with eight points. Vanlier added another seven.
DiBona led UCT Friday, January 20, scoring a game-high 15 points in a 43-26 loss to Norfolk County Agricultural High.
After a slow first quarter the pace quickened in the second as the Rams cut down on their turnovers and rebounded well. Offensively, the Aggies were not giving away any good looks at the net. Grassi got the Rams going in the second quarter with a jumper, and DiBona hit a 3-pointer as UCT fought to close the scoring gap. A put-back at the buzzer by Nicaeyla Pires left the Aggies with a 19-9 lead at the half.
Chade Vanlier put the Rams on the scoreboard after the break with a steal and a jumper. She followed that up with another two points, and DiBona knocked down a couple from the free throw line.
A nice pass from DiBona to Grassi underneath added to the score for the Rams in the fourth. DiBona hit for six more points down the stretch. DiBona finished the night with six rebounds, Vanlier had four points and five rebounds, and Grassi finished with four points and pulled down four rebounds.
The Rams (6-7) host South Shore Vocational Technical High Friday, January 27, at 5 PM.
