Stephen Swenson - Class of 2020
Saturday September 14th, 2019 was Stephen Swenson Day in Falmouth! The day was celebrated with an Eagle Court of Honor for Stephen at the Navigator with his troop, family, friends and local dignitaries present. Stephen earned the Eagle Scout rank on May 21st, 2019.
Stephen joined Troop 38 on March 3rd, 2013 when he crossed over from Cub Scout Pack 41. During his time in Scouts, Stephen earned 29 merit badges and was presented the J. Harold Williams Brotherhood Award at Yawgoog Scout Reservation in the summer of 2018. The award was established to perpetuate Mr. William’s belief in the spirit of Scouting and in the ideals of the movement. Scouts are selected weekly from observation of the key camp staff as having practiced these ideals. Only one of these awards is given out each week to a Scout from each camp at Yawgoog. Stephen held the positions of Quartermaster, Assistant Patrol Leader (2 terms), Patrol Leader (2 terms), Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader (3 consecutive terms) and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He camped over 140 nights including 6 weeks of summer camp at Camp Yawgoog, 11 nights at the 2017 National Jamboree and 12 nights at the 2019 World Scout Jamboree. Stephen completed his Eagle project in May 2018, cleaning and restoring around 40 civil war era gravestones and the gravestone of Katharine Lee Bates at Oak Grove Cemetery in Falmouth. Stephen is a Brotherhood member of the Abake Mi-Sa-Na-Ki Lodge 393, Order of the Arrow. Stephen has been in the Culinary program at Upper Cape Tech and plans to pursue a career in the culinary arts. Congratulations Stephen!
